Weekly Update

 Happy Friday!

Here is one of the activities from the week: Estimating Area & Preparing for our Measurement Unit Test!

Learning Intentions:

  • ·         Relate millimetres, centimetres, and metres
  • ·         Relate inches to feet and yards
  • ·         Justify the choice of millimetres, centimetres, or metres to measure various lengths
  • ·         Measure lengths of straight lines and curves, with millimetres, centimetres, or metres
  • ·         Recognize length expressed in metric or imperial units
  • ·         Determine the perimeter of polygons
  • ·         Determine the length of an unknown side given the perimeter of a polygon
  • ·         Estimate length by comparing to a benchmark or referent
  • ·         Measure area with standard units by tiling with square units (Grade 4)
  • ·         Determine the area of a rectangle using multiplication (Grade 4)
  • ·         Solve problems involving area of rectangles (Grade 4)
  • ·         Estimate an area by visualizing, using referents or rearrange partial units (Grade 4)

This week we continued practicing calculating the area of rectangles by using the formula Area = Base x Height. We also used referents such as base 10 blocks and fingertips to estimate the area of rectangles. We played the unfair game and completed some pixel art mysteries on Google Classroom to help us prepare for our Measurement Unit Test that will take place on Monday, June 2nd.  If you want to provide your child with additional practice for our upcoming test, the curricular outcomes that will be covered on the test are listed above. You can ensure they have completed their pixel art mysteries, practice measurement tasks on Knowledgehook, have them measure various items around the house, or check out some of these games:

Reminders:

  • Our Full-School Zoo Field Trip is on Wednesday, June 4th. Please ensure you have signed and returned your child's form. We are still looking for volunteers to support our field trip, so if you have your valid police clearance and are available to volunteer, please sign up here: https://volunteersignup.org/DY4CW
  • For the field trip, please make sure your child is dressed appropriately for the weather, with good walking shoes. Students will also need their own packed lunch and a waterbottle.

Have a great weekend!

Ms. Legere
