Happy Friday!
Here is a look at one of the Science tasks the Grade 3's did this week: Designing Naturally Awesome Objects!
Learning Intentions:
- Relate a processed material to the natural material from which it originated.
- Discuss how interaction with natural materials is guided by relationships with the land for First Nations, Métis, and Inuit communities.
- Students investigate and analyze how materials have the potential to be changed.
Grade 3 students have started their first Science unit all about Matter! We have looked at what natural and processed materials are and examples of each. We have also discussed how different Indigenous groups respectfully interact with natural materials from plants, animals, the land or the sky. After looking at some objects that are created solely from natural materials, we went outside and started designing objects we could make from the natural materials around us. Students creatively designed toys, clothing, accessories and clothes! Check out some of their designs below:
- Where is Alberta located in relation to the other provinces and territories of Canada?
- What are the major geographical and natural vegetation regions, landforms and bodies of water in Alberta?
