Weekly Update

Happy Friday!

Here is one of the activities we have been working on this week: Informative Writing

Learning Intentions:

  • Examine a variety of literary forms used to communicate ideas and information.
  • Differentiate between fiction and non-fiction texts according to content.
  • Determine how the structure of texts can help organize the expression or understanding of ideas or information.
  • Investigate ways that non-fiction texts can be organized to support sharing of information.
  • Discuss a variety of facts and opinions expressed in non-fiction texts.

Students are working on creating a non-fiction, informative writing piece.  This week we are learning to see what makes an informative text and how they are organized.  They are starting to brainstorm topics that they would like to research and then breaking those big topics into smaller topics.  Students will then learn how to write introduction sentences, use transition words to develop their informative paragraphs and then writing conclusing sentences to finish off their writing.
Ask your child what they will be writing for their informative writing piece.

Reminders:
- We are starting our gymnastics unit in Physical Education starting on Monday.  Please ensure your child comes to school dressed appropriately and comfortably to jump and climb and roll.  No loose jewelry and hair should be tied back and if your child chooses to wear a skirt/dress please ensure they have shorts underneath.
