Weekly Update

 Happy Friday!

Here is one of the activities from the week: Yellow Steps Residency!

 Learning Intentions:

  • Grade 3: Students analyze and describe how plants and animals interact with each other and with the environment.
    • (classification, environmental protection, food chain interactions, Indigenous knowledge of plants and animals)
  • Grade 4: Students analyze organisms and relate their external structures to functions.
    • (find and classify local plants, demonstrating respect when interacting with plants and animals in local environment)

This week we had the opportunity to work with Jenn from Yellow Steps! She helped us learn more about our community, specifically the 1 km radius around our school. On our first visit, we walked to Shouldice Accessible Park and discussed the different parts of our ecosystem. We then started our field work, observing and taking notes about the different insects, animals, plants and birds that we saw at the park. During our second visit, we went to Hextall Park and once again observed the different signs of our ecosystem around us and we compared our observations to those that we made at Shouldice Park. It was so nice to get outside in our community and deepen our understanding of the plants and animals that we have in Montgomery!

Check out some pictures from our time spent at Shouldice Park & Hextall Park!

Reminders:

  • Please keep an eye out for Science/Social Quizzes to be sent home next week, as well as our Algebra Tests and the students' Informative Writing pieces!
  • We will also send home our Telus Spark Field Trip forms next week. Please read, sign and return them ASAP.

Have a wonderful weekend!

Ms. Legere
