 Happy Friday!

Here is one of the activities from the week: Measuring Lengths & Perimeter!

Learning Intentions:

  • Relate millimetres, centimetres, and metres
  • Relate inches to feet and yards
  • Justify the choice of millimetres, centimetres, or metres to measure various lengths
  • Measure lengths of straight lines and curves, with millimetres, centimetres, or metres
  • Recognize length expressed in metric or imperial units
  • Determine the perimeter of polygons
  • Determine the length of an unknown side given the perimeter of a polygon

Last week we started our Math unit focused on Measurement! So far, students have had the opportunity to practice measuring various items using millimetres, centimetres, metres, inches, feet and yards. Students worked through different stations that required them to measure curved and straight lines, as well as find objects of a certain length. This week we started looking at calculating the perimeter of different objects and polygons. We calculated the perimeter when the side lengths were given to us, measured side lengths on our own, and determined the value of a mystery side when given the total perimeter. Next we will look at area! We have included the link to a game students can play at home to continue practicing their perimeter skills!

 Reminders:

  • Field trip forms were sent home earlier this week. If you haven't already, please sign and return these ASAP. We still require additional parent volunteers to join us, so if you have your police clearance and are available on May 20th, please let us know!
  • Unfortunately we have had to delay sending home some work and assessments. Please look out for multiple artifacts of learning next week!
